News from President and Vice President
October’s meeting will prove to be a busy time, please see the following: 6-7 p.m. Retreat sign-ups AND fabric bag sales. 7 p.m. Meeting begins with the following: New President nominations AND Vice President nominations.
Sherry G., President and Sandy H., Vice President Community Quilts At the October meeting, I will have some more quilts that need binding. Since we don't have a meeting in November due to Election Day, I would ask that if you take a quilt to bind that you wait to return it to me in January. Due to the holidays and guests coming to my house, I won't have room to store them and I won't have time to take them to be donated. Thanks. Carol G., Community Quilts Chair Quilt Retreat 2023 Just a reminder that we will begin taking registrations for the Quilting with My Peeps retreat at the October meeting. As many of you know, these spots fill up quickly and we only have 78 spots available. You will need to make at least the $50 deposit in order to pick your seat. Be sure to choose your seat carefully. Spots fill up quickly and you won’t be able to request a different spot later. If you want to sit with friends, they will need to be present and pay their deposit or you can bring their deposit with you. The committee is working to make this another great retreat and look forward to Quilting with our Peeps! Carol G., Retreat Chair Quilt Show 2024 Raffle quilt block kits will be available at the October meeting to sign out for you to take home and work on. Each block is paper pieced and we ask that they be returned without trimming being done. Deadline for completion and return is the January meeting. There are 25 blocks total so your help would be greatly appreciated. If for any reason you complete the blocks prior to January and would like to turn them in or can’t make the January meeting, please reach out to me and arrangements can be made to get the blocks from you. Thank you! Emilie T., Quilt Show Chair Quilt of Valor News The October 11 guild meeting is our turn-in date for our Scrap Busting Block Drive! We have 20 members who are participating and we look forward to seeing the blocks that everyone has made! Some of you have already turned in your blocks and we have made a few tops already with some of the sets. If you already turned in your blocks, please stop by the QOV table at the meeting to pick up your "Thank You"! If your blocks are not done, or you won't be at the meeting, please e-mail me and we can work out an alternative solution. Thank you to all who participated!! The other big news is that we have a new Quilts of Valor coordinator! Patty H., a guild member who has long worked with our Quilt of Valor group in sew-ins and presentations, has volunteered to lead the project beginning in March 2023!! Patty has mega sewing experience, has a son who is in the military, and she worked at Wright-Patt for many years. She will be a natural at this! We are very excited that she is willing to lead and organize the project. I will continue with sew-ins, presentations, etc. until the end of December. Patty will have neck surgery right after Christmas and will be recuperating for about a month afterwards. The two of us will make the transition of fabric, patterns, computer work, etc. in February and she'll begin sew-ins, presentations, etc. in March. I know that our "regulars" have already pledged their support for Patty, and know that the rest of the guild will as well! Right now, we have two sew-ins a month - one at Sharing Stitches in Xenia and one at Crestview Baptist Church in Clayton. We have kept these sew-ins small during the COVID time, but if you are interested in participating, please let me know! Debbie G, Quilts of Valor Coordinator [email protected] Announcement A fellow guild member wanted to pass along that the owner, Darlene Griffith, of Quilted Christmas, is going out of business. In an effort to downsize her inventory, she is putting hundreds and hundreds of bolts on sale for $6/yd. More importantly, though, she has decided to entertain shoppers in her home on an appointment basis. You are sure to have fun perusing bolts upon bolts of all types of high quality fabrics. Her home is located in Germantown. Please contact her through her website QUILTEDCHRISTMAS.COM to set up your excursion.
