December Guild Meeting - Tuesday, December 12 Merry Christmas! It’s that time of the year again to celebrate the spirit of Christmas at our annual Christmas party and potluck carry-in! This year’s theme is “Angel’s Among Us”. Connie M, our new Hospitality chair, and her team of elves have been working hard on decorations for the room and tables. Mary Ann, Vice President, has a few surprises planned for the meeting including a basket raffle so be sure to check out the baskets when you arrive and purchase your tickets. You’ll want to remember to bring the following to December’s meeting:
In addition to the Christmas fun, Melody H our new President will be kicking off a Crayon Challenge, so look for a bag of crayons during the meeting that will guide your color palate for building a challenge quilt. More details to come. January Guild Meeting - Tuesday, January 9 You won’t want to miss January’s guest speaker, Mary Zesiger! A serious quilter since 1980, she began judging in 1996 and enjoys the challenge of competing on all levels from local to international. She will be sharing how to prepare for quilt shows and judging, plus show and tell her quilts. Learn more about this guild meeting on our calendar here. Michelle P., President and Mary Ann C., Vice President Membership It's time to pay our 2024 dues! Print the membership form off the website here, fill out your information and bring to the meeting with your $25 via cash or check to help this process move along much quicker. Or you can mail it in to the address listed on the form. Quilts of Valor Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year! Sew-ins start back up in January. Both dates are tentative on the weather. If I feel it’s unsafe to drive, watch for an email the night before or early morning of the day.
Approximately 30 quilts will be presented between Veteran’s Day and the end of December. Regarding the Block Drive, I have not counted as of yet but we will have plenty of blocks to keep the sewers busy making quilts. I’m still collecting blocks, just bring them to the Guild meeting. Happy Sewing, Patty Hardin, QOV Chair Retreat Reminders:
Retreat Lunches: Starting at 5:30, before the Guild meeting on Tuesday, we will be collecting forms and money for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday lunches. You can pick one day, or all three, to have a delivered lunch.

Guild Meetings November Elections will be held. PLEASE consider running and contributing your time and talent to this Guild! Mary Ann and Pat will be hosting a “Have your Cake and Eat it Too” game night. The musical sit-down “Cake Walk” will be further explained at our meeting. Donated material has been cut by a team of members into Layer Cake and Charm packages as “prizes” for winning. We will play several rounds until prizes have been all drawn. After the game, we have planned a social time set aside with homemade cakes and cupcakes to be served with water, coffee, or tea available. During Coffee (et al) and Cake, Show and Tell will be held. Please bring your creations for others to see! Limit 2 per person please so everyone has a chance. December Christmas Carry-in! Everyone planning to attend please bring a dish to share with 8-10 people. Last name ending in A – M please bring a side dish or a main dish. Last name ending in N – Z please bring a dessert. Connie M is our new Hospitality Chair and is very involved in making this Christmas a special event for the Guild. Her input for the newsletter follows below with details. She will also explain our Christmas party further in our next Guild meeting. Don’t forget your Christmas Blocks! Pattern and instructions for building the simple block are on our web site. One block submitted in December puts you in the drawing for winning all the blocks submitted (last year so many blocks submitted we had enough for two full quilts, so there were 2 winners). Bring back the finished quilt top in June and the Guild will provide $50 toward the cost of finishing the quilt. Michelle P., President and Mary Ann C., Vice President December Party Carry-In Quilters! It’s that time of the year again to celebrate the spirit of Christmas at our annual Christmas party! This year’s theme is “Angel’s among us” and we need your help. We are asking for donations of food, decorations, and volunteers. We need all kinds of foods such as meat, sides, salads and desserts. We will also need table decorations such as candles, Christmas decorations and a few more table runners. If there is enough interest, we would also like to have a Christmas ornament gift exchange. Homemade ornaments are encouraged. The most important thing we need is YOU. We need volunteers to help us put on a great party! We’re asking people with last names ending A-M to bring a side or main dish; last names ending N-Z to bring a dessert, or if you would like to contact me directly, you can do that as well by phone or email. We really appreciate all your help with this Christmas party. I know this year will yet again be another successful event. Connie M., Hospitality Coordinator Quilts of Valor Happy Fall. Now that everyone is in the middle of Christmas gift making, I am not having QOV sew-ins for Nov or Dec. We will start back up in January, as long as Mother Nature is good to us. This month is our big month for presentations. Regarding the block drive, I will be drawing names for 4 gift cards during the November meeting. If you can’t come to the November meeting, I will be collecting the blocks at the December meeting as well. Happy Thanksgiving, Patty H., QOV Chair Retreat Wow, the retreat sold out the first day! It will be a Flamazing Retreat! Don’t forget the theme involves flamingos. You and your besties can glam it up with matching shirts, hats, etc. Or wear pink! We will have an area decorated for a photo backdrop to get pictures. Of course, you don’t have to participate in dressing up. Just be yourself, and be comfortable to sew! Life happens, so we may have cancellations. If you missed out on signing up, you can get on a wait list. Contact Carol Gibson, csg012258@gmail.com, to have your name put on a list for openings. Carol will contact you if an opening occurs. Balance due on your retreat reservation must be paid by the January meeting. If you don’t know the amount due, contact Carol. Carol will be available to take your money before the guild meetings. Retreat Lunches (optional): Starting at 5:30 p.m., before the Guild meeting on Tuesday, we will be collecting forms and money for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday lunches. You can pick one day, or all three, to have a delivered lunch. The form is on the http://MVQGohio.com website. Please fill the form out completely. There are options that must be chosen. Please bring a check made out to MVQG, or cash. Try to bring the correct amount due if possible. The line will move much quicker if you can do so. If you need to purchase batting or backing for these, just see that I get the receipt and you will be reimbursed. Thank you to all who have been helping and those that will be helping. Carol G, Community Projects Chair From the President and Vice President:
A big thank you to our own Bonnie M for last month’s Turning Twenty presentation and hosting her sew-in events in the following week. For the Guild, using the Turning Twenty pattern, ten Quilts of Valor (QoV) were started and are in the works to deliver to our QoV Chair, Patty H. In addition, cutting material and assembling into kits was also accomplished and will be provided to the QoV chair, Patty H. Please see Patty if you are interested in participating in any way to build, finish and quilt the QoV. She has additional information in this newsletter. A big THANK YOU as well to Debbie B. who volunteered at our last meeting to take over the Membership Chair position. We also had Tina F. volunteer to help Debbie at the table on the Guild meeting nights. As you are signing in at our May meeting, make sure you stop at the Membership table and welcome both. Tere H. has been our Membership Chair for several years – her excellent service has been vital to the success of our Guild. You will still see Tere around the Guild meeting and events! Announcements:

News from the President/Vice President I want to start this month off with huge hugs and "Thank you" to all of our members who work so hard to make our guild a success! From the lectures to the retreat, you are all AWESOME! "A force to be reckoned with " is what my grandfather would have called you all!!! March winds (and tornados) have been blowing our way but sunshine is on the way! Our Madame President Michelle was smart enough to take a month long sabbatical to Florida! That means two things...first, she is smarter than me. Second, that leaves you guys stuck with me! I will be emceeing the meeting without my other half of the M&M's. Lol. If you have any info for me to cover, please call me or email this week before Friday. Our meeting this month will be our Scrap Bag Challenge. These were the bundles purchased at our meeting tables. The challenge was to make an item that had no less than 75 percent from that bundle. If you are entering your item, please have it to the building by 6 p.m. They will be registered and given a number. That number helps us tally the vote. We will be awarding a first, second and third prize based on the popular vote. When you arrive and sign in on our membership roster, you will be given a token. That token gets your favorite item number written on the back. You will drop that in the bag next to the item. During the meeting these will be tallied. After our speakers, we will have show and tell. Then the winners will be presented their award. Our speaker this month comes from the Columbus area. She is presenting their group’s "Survival" quilt. They will be selling the patterns for their charity. It was very generous of Leslie to come this far and give us her time. April Programming April 11 will be our "Turning 20" lecture and trunk show with our own Bonnie Moore. If you have any of these quilts, please see Bonnie before our March meeting. She will be featuring examples and prepping for our upcoming April classes. If you are coming to the Wednesday workshop (April 12), it will be at Bethel Community Church. Cutting is from 12 to 3 p.m.; sewing from 3 to 9 pm. We are doing these quilts for QOV so this is a free workshop day. We will be using donated red, white and blue fabrics. If you want to make your own quilt, there will be a $25 class on the Saturday, April 15. Bonnie will give more details at her lecture in April. May Programming May brings Cassandra Ireland-Beaver with her trunk show during the guild meeting on May 9 with her “Raise the Roof” foundation paper piecing class on May 10. We have 11 slots left! If enough members sign up, it will be held at Enon Knob Prairie Church. Cost is $50 for MVQG members and a $12 pattern fee (payable directly to the instructor). Non-members pay an additional $10 for the class. The checks for this workshop will be collected at our March/April meetings. I am watching for her bundle info to forward to you, so be sure your email is listed correctly when you pay. Since I am running the meeting, I will have another member collecting at the workshop table. Bonus Program May is also our bonus class with Liz Granberg-Jerome from Gypsy Dreamer Quilts with her "Hexified panels" class. This will be on May 13. This class offers a one- or two-day option. If you are purchasing a precut mini kit ($15), you only need the one-day option ($45 for MVQG members; $55 for non-members). If you want to bring your own panels, you would need the two-day option ($75 for MVQG members; $85 for non-members). Liz offers other sized precut kits on her Etsy site. Liz offers videos on the Timeless Treasures site also. The class teaches the 60-degree equilateral triangle. You may bring your own or she is offering her mini (5 1/2 inch) for $15. See calendar for flyer with more details. Liz is delightful and I encourage you to take advantage of her classes. The Saturday class will be at Bethel Community Church from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday is a TBD by how many members are signed up. This is a lot to absorb so we will be publishing more in our future newsletters. We look forward to lots of great days to get to know you all better! Stay safe, M&M (Michelle & Mary Ann) RETREAT Well, another annual retreat is over, and I hope everyone had a great time. I know I did! I would like to thank all my committee members without whom the retreat is not possible. I would also like to announce that Cindy R. has agreed to be the chairperson for the retreat next year. I am sure that she will have sign ups soon for her committee. If you haven't participated in the planning of the retreat, please consider joining the committee. It is very rewarding, and we have a lot of fun getting everything together. If you are new to the guild, this is a great way to get involved and make some new friends. Carol G., 2023 Retreat Chair COMMUNITY QUILTS I will have more quilts that need binding at the next meeting. Please consider taking one or more quilts to finish. I will also have several quilt tops that need to be sandwiched, quilted and bound. Thank you to all those that took quilts last month. Your time and effort are greatly appreciated. Carol G., Community Quilts Chair QUILTS OF VALOR First, I want to thank Debbie G. for her 10 years of dedicated service and for her support. Debbie will be missed but we are lucky she will be available to help while I continue the work she started. While we haven’t had sew-ins since Dec 2022, everyone has been hard at work with piecing, quilting, binding, making labels and presentations. Thank you and I am looking forward to working with everyone. We will be starting our monthly Sew-ins beginning in April. They will be the first Thursday (April 6) at Sharing Stitches, 492 W. 2nd St., Xenia and the third Wednesday (April 19) at Crestview Church in Clayton, 6600 Salem, Clayton both from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Please send me an email if you want to participate: pattyhardin78@gmail.com Patty H., QOV Chair QUILT SHOW We are gearing up to start reaching out to vendors for our 2024 quilt show. If anyone is interested in helping Barb C. out and learning the ropes, please let Emilie T. or Barb C. know. Our goal is to have letters out to past vendors to give them first shot at a booth and potentially their same location. Our deadline will be September 1 and then we will start reaching out to potential new vendors if there is still room. If you are interested in being an Ambassador or volunteering for the guild table at the October 12-14, 2023 Sewing Expo, let us know (Emilie T., Peggy D. or Maggie M.) and we can provide the information. I realize October seems far off but it will be here before you know it. We will have printed information as we get closer to the event as well. Thank you to the ladies that attended the meeting on February 28! We got a lot of good information and ideas from you. Emilie T, Quilt Show Chair |
