Q
From the President and Vice President:
Announcements:
  • Our next Guild meeting is on Tuesday, 12 Sept at 6:30.  We will start on-time.  Our meetings are always held the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
  • We are back to meeting in our normal location at Knob Prairie United Church, 203 W Main Street, Enon.
  • Please find your name badge and wear it to Guild meetings. It is a good way to get to know each other, an ice-breaker for new folks, and a conversation starter.  Lost your Guild name badge?  Make one!  Get creative – but prominently display your name!
  • We are always looking for volunteers!   A need for a “Sunshine Committee” Chair is sought to be a central place for the Guild to recognize major events in the lives of our members by sending get-well/well-wishes cards and staying in touch with members during these events. Please see Michelle P. or Deb B. if you are interested. There are also multiple other support activities if you would like to be more involved with the Guild.  Please see any of the Committee members at the Guild meeting if you can help.
  • Become a sponsor of the Guild!  For Quilting Businesses – advertising in the Miami Valley Guild Website is an excellent way to reach the hundreds of people who are Guild members!  Become a Sponsor – yearly cost is just $20 year.  Please contact our newest volunteer, Lindsay Nicholson, Advertising Chair at (937) 232-9335.
Guild Meeting:
September:  It is Basket Auction time! Many of you may have participated in this fun and exciting event last year. This is so much fun and a wonderful fund-raiser for the guild! Please consider being part of the fun by contributing a basket for this auction. All you need to do, either as individuals or as a team, is to fill a basket with quality items. You can base your basket on a theme (sewing, food, health and wellness – just examples) or no theme at all – you or your teams’ basket can be whatever you want – let’s just ensure the baskets are quality, sought-after items! Size of the basket is up to you! This is a way for creativity and quality to add to good-natured competition for sought-after baskets at the auction. The more baskets we have – the more fun! Be sure to bring lots of quarters with you – we will have limited quarters available for purchase.
October: We are very happy to announce that in October we will have Laura Gilmartin from Virginia as our guest presenter, who will also host two teaching workshop events. Laura is an award-winning thread painting and Tsinko inks artist. You will be impressed with her knowledge and tips. This is a great way to add to your project knowledge. We are very fortunate to have acquired Laura and her time! She was interested in seeing the shop hop at the Nutter Center which is occurring at this same time and was gracious to provide teaching opportunities for our Guild members during this time she is in the local area. Very special for us as she will not be teaching at the Nutter, but instead with our Guild. Her presentation/lecture at our MVQG October meeting is titled “Art is a Many Splendored Seam”. In addition, she will be instructing two hands-on workshops/classes. Space will be limited, so sign up early! The two classes she is offering are:
Tsinko Inks Tulip Class: Wednesday, October 11: 12:30-4:30 p.m., Bethel Location.  Cost $45 for MVQG members; $55 for non-members.
Landscape Choices for Thread Painting: Thursday, Oct 12: 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Bethel
Location.  Cost $60 for MVQG members; $70 for non-members.
See Calendar for pics of workshop projects.
Please make sure you are signed up for one or both by the September meeting. Lead-
time is needed well ahead of the October workshops to prep for these workshops. Once the classes are paid and confirmed, we will send out the supply lists. Classes will be at Bethel Community Church in Medway. We usually do a group lunch for this workshop site. If you have any suggestions or contribution, please talk with Mary Ann C. or Pat H. either at the Guild meeting or directly by phone.

November:  Home-grown fun, games and show-and-tell planned for November. Stand by for
more details.

 QUILT SHOW

If you are interested in being an Ambassador or volunteering for the guild table at the October 12-14, 2023 Sewing Expo, let us know soon (Emilie T., Peggy D. or Maggie M.). We have a few spots that need to be filled. We will be turning in names by the end of the month for those who are volunteering at our table so you can get free entry.

If you are volunteering as an Ambassador please let us know, so we can be sure they match up your name to the Guild. Here is the link if you wish to sign up as an Ambassador https://www.sewingexpo.com/Volunteer. There are opportunities to be a volunteer in their classes so check those out; classes are posted online.

We have a Quilt Show meeting scheduled for September 11 at 6 p.m. at the Beavercreek Library. If you are interested in volunteering, we do still need someone to be in charge of the quilt intake for the show or if you want to see what it's all about all are welcome.

We will have the completed raffle quilt for your viewing pleasure and raffle tickets will be available at this month's meeting as well.
