News from the President/Vice President
I want to start this month off with huge hugs and "Thank you" to all of our members who work so hard to make our guild a success! From the lectures to the retreat, you are all AWESOME! "A force to be reckoned with " is what my grandfather would have called you all!!! March winds (and tornados) have been blowing our way but sunshine is on the way! Our Madame President Michelle was smart enough to take a month long sabbatical to Florida! That means two things...first, she is smarter than me. Second, that leaves you guys stuck with me! I will be emceeing the meeting without my other half of the M&M's. Lol. If you have any info for me to cover, please call me or email this week before Friday.
 
Our meeting this month will be our Scrap Bag Challenge. These were the bundles purchased at our meeting tables. The challenge was to make an item that had no less than 75 percent from that bundle. If you are entering your item, please have it to the building by 6 p.m. They will be registered and given a number. That number helps us tally the vote. We will be awarding a first, second and third prize based on the popular vote. When you arrive and sign in on our membership roster, you will be given a token. That token gets your favorite item number written on the back. You will drop that in the bag next to the item. During the meeting these will be tallied. After our speakers, we will have show and tell. Then the winners will be presented their award.
 
Our speaker this month comes from the Columbus area. She is presenting their group’s "Survival" quilt. They will be selling the patterns for their charity. It was very generous of Leslie to come this far and give us her time. 

April Programming
April 11 will be our "Turning 20" lecture and trunk show with our own Bonnie Moore. If you have any of these quilts, please see Bonnie before our March meeting. She will be featuring examples and prepping for our upcoming April classes.

If you are coming to the Wednesday workshop (April 12), it will be at Bethel Community Church. Cutting is from 12 to 3 p.m.; sewing from 3 to 9 pm. We are doing these quilts for QOV so this is a free workshop day. We will be using donated red, white and blue fabrics. If you want to make your own quilt, there will be a $25 class on the Saturday, April 15. Bonnie will give more details at her lecture in April. 
 
May Programming
May brings Cassandra Ireland-Beaver with her trunk show during the guild meeting on May 9 with her “Raise the Roof” foundation paper piecing class on May 10. We have 11 slots left!  If enough members sign up, it will be held at Enon Knob Prairie Church. Cost is $50 for MVQG members and a $12 pattern fee (payable directly to the instructor). Non-members pay an additional $10 for the class. The checks for this workshop will be collected at our March/April meetings. I am watching for her bundle info to forward to you, so be sure your email is listed correctly when you pay. Since I am running the meeting, I will have another member collecting at the workshop table.

​Bonus Program
 
May is also our bonus class with Liz Granberg-Jerome from Gypsy Dreamer Quilts with her "Hexified panels" class. This will be on May 13. This class offers a one- or two-day option. If you are purchasing a precut mini kit ($15), you only need the one-day option ($45 for MVQG members; $55 for non-members). If you want to bring your own panels, you would need the two-day option ($75 for MVQG members; $85 for non-members).  Liz offers other sized precut kits on her Etsy site.
 
Liz offers videos on the Timeless Treasures site also. The class teaches the 60-degree equilateral triangle. You may bring your own or she is offering her mini (5 1/2 inch) for $15. See calendar for flyer with more details. Liz is delightful and I encourage you to take advantage of her classes. The Saturday class will be at Bethel Community Church from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday is a TBD by how many members are signed up. 
 
This is a lot to absorb so we will be publishing more in our future newsletters. We look forward to lots of great days to get to know you all better!

RETREAT
Well, another annual retreat is over, and I hope everyone had a great time. I know I did! I would like to thank all my committee members without whom the retreat is not possible.  I would also like to announce that Cindy R. has agreed to be the chairperson for the retreat next year.  I am sure that she will have sign ups soon for her committee. If you haven't participated in the planning of the retreat, please consider joining the committee. It is very rewarding, and we have a lot of fun getting everything together.  If you are new to the guild, this is a great way to get involved and make some new friends.

COMMUNITY QUILTS
I will have more quilts that need binding at the next meeting. Please consider taking one or more quilts to finish. I will also have several quilt tops that need to be sandwiched, quilted and bound. Thank you to all those that took quilts last month. Your time and effort are greatly appreciated.

QUILTS OF VALOR
First, I want to thank Debbie G. for her 10 years of dedicated service and for her support. Debbie will be missed but we are lucky she will be available to help while I continue the work she started. While we haven’t had sew-ins since Dec 2022, everyone has been hard at work with piecing, quilting, binding, making labels and presentations. Thank you and I am looking forward to working with everyone. 

We will be starting our monthly Sew-ins beginning in April.  They will be the first Thursday (April 6) at Sharing Stitches, 492 W. 2nd St., Xenia and the third Wednesday (April 19) at Crestview Church in Clayton, 6600 Salem, Clayton both from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.  Please send me an email if you want to participate: [email protected]

QUILT SHOW
We are gearing up to start reaching out to vendors for our 2024 quilt show. If anyone is interested in helping Barb C. out and learning the ropes, please let Emilie T. or Barb C. know. Our goal is to have letters out to past vendors to give them first shot at a booth and potentially their same location. Our deadline will be September 1 and then we will start reaching out to potential new vendors if there is still room. 
 
If you are interested in being an Ambassador or volunteering for the guild table at the October 12-14, 2023 Sewing Expo, let us know (Emilie T., Peggy D. or Maggie M.) and we can provide the information. I realize October seems far off but it will be here before you know it. We will have printed information as we get closer to the event as well. 
 
Thank you to the ladies that attended the meeting on February 28! We got a lot of good information and ideas from you.
