News from President
Spring has sprung and here comes summer, please keep hydrated at all times. I want to again welcome all of our new members. We had a very successful quilt show and now the reigns have been passed on to Emilie Theriot and two co-chairs. Speaking for Shari and myself, we had the pleasure of heading up 3 quilt shows with one being cancelled due to the pandemic. Please consider helping again in two years. In the mean time we have 3 more speakers this year coming our way, our Holiday carry-in for members only in December and our next retreat in February 2023. See you soon, Gorby News from Vice President Sandi Blackwell is joining us this month; she will bring many of her wares to sell Tuesday evening at our meeting. The workshop for Wednesday is full. Sharon Resvick will be with us in July for a presentation. Signups began last month for Catherine Redmond in August and Gyleen Fitzgerald in September. Please remember, if you sign up for a workshop and are unable to attend, let me know asap. A month is preferable for a refund; within two weeks, we cannot guarantee a refund. We understand that life happens, however, this is a common practice and last-minute cancellations doesn’t allow for filling the seat. This ultimately costs the guild and causes us to pay the difference since our teachers charge a flat rate. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! Sandy H, Vice President Quilts of Valor After an absence of two years (you all know why!), Quilts of Valor Block Drive is BACK!! This one is going to be run a little differently this year - I'm really trying to reduce our scrap piles! 1) Block Drive starts at the July 12 meeting and you will hand in your blocks at the October 11 meeting. You will be given a bag with at least 6 compatible fat quarters in it. Your assignment is to add your own background and make 12 of the same block (with the different fabrics) in it. Blocks should be 12½ " UNFINISHED. The block pattern is your choice - classic, stars, connecting blocks (such as 9 patch or Irish Chain), etc. With the blocks being coordinated, it should be easy to finish into QOV tops at the monthly sew-ins. 2) The block drive runs 12 weeks - a block a week! If you are interested, you will need to sign up at the June 14 meeting, so that I will know how many kits to make up. If you won't be at the meeting, but want to sign up, send me an e-mail ([email protected]) letting me know by June 15. Kits will be passed out at the July 12 meeting. Each kit will have more detailed instructions, but if you have questions, please feel free to e-mail me. Speaking of QOV sew-ins, we are in the process of resuming them on a limited basis. Because of some space restrictions, we are keeping them small right now, as we work out the transitions. So the people who have been sew-in regulars in the past are being given first dibs on spaces at this time. We'll see if this will change as we get back in the swing of it all! Thank you all for everything that you do for our active military and veterans! Happy Quilting! Debbie G., QOV Coordinator
