February E-News

2/7/2023

Reminder that our start time has changed!  We are starting the meeting now at 6:30 p.m. (vs 7 p.m.).  See you all at 6:30 on Valentine’s Day… 14 Feb!

Membership Dues: If you’ve not joined the Guild for 2023 yet, please make sure you stop at the table as you come in to pay these dues.  A membership form is on our web site, or you can fill one out when you come in.  Yearly dues are $20.  If you paid at the January meeting and did not receive a receipt for your payment and a new membership card, please stop at the membership table to retrieve them.

Guild Meeting:  Our line-up for 14 Feb will include:
  • A Valentine offering of soup to warm you up. No need to bring anything if you aren’t one of those who already generously volunteered to bring in goodies during the last meeting. We are keeping this simple with just a few offerings.
  • We will finish the introductions of our Committee Chairs, who they are, what they do, and help they may need.
  • Ms. Dalphene Parks is our guest speaker and will be bringing quilts and knowledge to share. She is a prolific and awarded quilter known for her talent with feed sacks and Kaffe Fassett fabrics.
  • If time allows, we always can include show and tell.

Dog Beds:  Just a reminder on how to donate and package up your scraps for Dog Beds.  Use a pillowcase or similar size fabric container (no plastic garbage bags) to load in scraps of material no more than ¾ full. These scraps should be smaller scraps that can be fluffy when added to the bag. Please make sure you are not putting in big flat pieces. Also, only material scraps; please no foam or any other medium. To complete the bag SEW IT SHUT. No open bags can be used, and if you leave it open, someone else has to sew them shut.

Grab Bag Challenge:  Remember to finish those projects!  The finished projects will be displayed at the March meeting. Membership will vote for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place with prizes awarded.

Upcoming Events:

Feb Guild meeting 14 Feb:  Ms. Dalphene Parks: She is so excited and has called several times to say how honored she is to be invited to share! I hope you all can make it to her lecture. She is delightful. If you haven't signed up for classes yet, we have a couple of spots left. Call Mary Ann if you are interested. Once they are gone, we would be happy to sign you up for the waiting list.

Feb Classes with Ms Dalphene Parks:
Wednesday, Feb 16:  Pinwheels and Posies
            Thursday, Feb 17: Scraptastics Class

Quilt Retreat:

The Quilt Retreat is just 11 days away.  We are all looking forward to a relaxing and fun weekend Quilting with our Peeps!  For those of you going to the retreat, just a few things to note:
  • We will have two games at the retreat.  For the Left, Right, Center game, you will need three fat quarters to participate.  The other games, Hold, Trade, Kitty, you will need 3 sewing related items such as a fat quarter, spool of thread, seam ripper, etc.
  • Feel free to bring snacks to share on the snack table.  However, all snacks should be individually wrapped.
  • For those of you staying at the hotel, please do not check in until directed to do so.  We need to give the hotel time to clean any rooms that we need.  Also, once you check in, make sure your room is acceptable as soon as possible so any issues can be addressed quickly.
  • Finally, and most importantly, you all picked your seats when you signed up. Please do not move seats or ask anyone to trade with you. There is no moving of seats.

March Guild Meeting 14 Mar:   Scrap Bag Challenge Show and first, second and third place awards by popular vote!  Be sure to bring in your creations!  Our presentation in March will be from Leslie and Josie of Hidden Stitches and the “Survivor Quilt Trunk Show”. You will not want to miss this.  They were generous to drive all the way from Cleveland to do this for us! The only thing they asked were to be able to sell their patterns ($15) and spread the word of their mission. Please come out to support their generous offer!

April:  Bonnie Moore (member):  Turning 20 Quilt demo and follow-up workshop.  More information at the February Guild meeting.

Community Quilts

I will have several quilts that need binding at the meeting on the 14th. Please see me if you can help get these ready for donation.

I donated 6 twin size quilts to the St. Vincent DePaul women's shelter. They had sent out a request for blankets due to the high volume of people they were helping as a result of the extremely cold weather we were having.
