Hello Miami Valley Quilters' Guild!
Happy early Mother’s Day! I hope you all have a lovely day as you celebrate the mothers in your life. The 2024 Quilt Show is finally here! We have lots to cover as we finalize our quilt show preparations during our May meeting, so we’ll start promptly at 6:30pm. Signup sheets will be available for those able to help. This is our guild’s biggest fundraiser and helps support our programs and speakers. We couldn’t do it without you! Have questions about the quilt show or unsure about entering a quilt to be displayed? Bring those questions to ask at the meeting or reply to this guild email with your questions and they will all be addressed anonymously at the meeting. Usually if one person has that question, many others do too We are also looking forward to show and tell this month – I can’t wait to see the group challenge quilts! See you soon! Melody H., president Upcoming meetings: Board Meeting – Thursday, May 9 at 6:00pm Members are welcome to attend. It will be held in the first floor conference room at the Wingard Building (492 W Second St, Xenia OH 45385). May Guild Meeting – Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30pm We will be reviewing over any quilt show plans and needs during the May meeting, plus have show and tell for any projects you’d like to show off and to see our challenge quilts! Be sure to show up a little early to sign up for workshops, quilt show volunteer spots and more! We will also have a short speaker program from a couple of the groups that we donate quilts to – Dennis Hawley from Jeremiah’s Letter and Melanie Williams from Bridges. They want to say thank you, let you know how much your generosity means, plus answer any questions you may have. If anyone has quilts or tops ready for these groups, please call or text Mary Ann so she can have them separated and ready beforehand to display and present to the speakers. June Guild Meeting – Tuesday, June 9 at 6:30pm Join us for Liz Granberg-Jerome’s “Adventures with 60º Triangle Quilts” lecture and trunk show, showcasing 60° triangles to make pieced hexies that produced a variety of quilts with no Y-seams and has evolved into her original design Hexified Panel Quilts, a hybrid that merges several techniques! She will be hosting a great workshop showing how to make a Hexified Panel Quilt on June 12 and June 13. Spots are still available - You can choose to do a 1-day class and complete a smaller precut kit or choose the 2-day class and complete a larger precut kit! View more details here. 2024 Quilt Show Our 2024 Quilt Show is just a few weeks away, on May 31 and June 1 from 10am – 4pm! If you happen to have clear pants hangers with the clip you squeeze, not the metal slider ones, we’d still be happy to take them off your hands! Quilt Submissions: Keep them coming - We have just over 30 entries so far, but we need many more! As submissions come through on the website, we are updating them on the website too. When you visit www.quiltshowmvqg.com, select the “exhibit submission form” button on the main page or go to the “more” category and in the dropdown menu you’ll see “guild member show information”, then choose “exhibit submission form”. Entries are limited to 6 per member, but if we need more quilts, we will come to you with that request. Deadline for submission is May 17. Raffle Tickets: Raffle tickets are still available. We will have them at the quilt show table at our next meeting as usual. If you have tickets and money to turn in, you can do it at that time as well. Donations Needed: We are looking for donations to make hourly door prize giveaways – items like fat quarters, jelly rolls, charm packs, layer cakes, rulers, or patterns, etc. If you can donate, please contact Cynthia M at [email protected]. Any donations for the concession area can also be brought to the May meeting. We are looking for items like boxes of mixed chips, coffee and Styrofoam cups, spoons and forks, Diet Coke, Coke, unsweetened and sweetened tea, and large trash bags. We are looking to borrow 2 large garbage cans. Volunteer Opportunities: There are several volunteer opportunities for the show of all kinds, and we will have signup sheets at our meetings! If you forgot what you signed up for you can check on the quilt show website. We regularly update that, but it will only show your first name and last initial. Business Owner opportunity: If you are a member and have a business, we are allowing those people to put something in our bags for new members at the show. If you would like to add a flier, coupon, etc. please let Lindsay N, our communications and advertising chair know! We are using small bags this year, approx. 8x10 so please be mindful of size. Thanks, Emilie T, Quilt Show Chair Guild Sew-ins Did you know regular sew-ins are held at the Fairborn Senior Center? We meet every Monday from 11am – 4pm, plus the second and fourth Fridays of the month from 11am – 4pm. If you are joining to help us sew community quilts, your entry will be free!
