Membership dues:  If you’ve not joined the Guild for 2023 yet, please make sure you stop at the table as you come in to pay these dues.  A membership form is on our web site, or you can fill one out when you come in.  Yearly dues are $20.
 Announcements
Our next Guild meeting is on Tuesday, 11 April.  Just a reminder on our new 6:30 pm start time.
  • This month we will also be holding a Board Meeting beginning at 5:30 pm.  Members are welcome to attend.
  • We are always looking for volunteers!  There is no shortage of ways to join in to help.   We are actively seeking leaders for Membership Director and for the Guild Advertising Director.  There are also multiple other support activities if you would like to be more involved with the Guild.
  • Become a sponsor of the Guild!  For Quilting Businesses – advertising in the Miami Valley Guild Website is an excellent way to reach the hundreds of people who are Guild members!  Become a Sponsor – yearly cost is just $20 year.  Please contact Michelle P. ([email protected]) or Kim G. ([email protected]) for more details.
  • Don’t forget to support the Shop Hop, Nutter Center, 14 & 15 April.  This is a twice per year huge quilting/sewing event with multiple vendors.  Some of these vendors are also Sponsors of the Guild.
April Meeting Plan
This month Bonnie Moore will be presenting a short presentation of the Turning 20 pattern.  If you have made this quilt in the past, please bring it along to share your version.  Bonnie will be bringing a few quilts to help explain the ease of making this quilt.  This pattern is very flexible, can be made in multiple ways, and is quick to complete.  We will use this pattern for the sew-in on Wednesday to construct Quilts of Valor.  More information below follows on the Wednesday sew-in.
  • We will also be passing a basket raffle around for a 50/50 draw.  Details at the meeting, but the Guild will use the 50% portion to buy material for the back of the Quilts of Valor.  We plan on returning the other 50% in the raffle as two prizes – 25% for each winner.
  • Show and tell!  Please bring your works of art to show to others.  We are all inspired to see all the beautiful quilts, bags, and other unique items made by all the creative folks.

Upcoming Events

April
Turning 20 Quilts of Valor sew-in:  Wednesday, 12 April at Bethel Community Church.  YOU WILL NEED TO BRING 20 PATRIOTIC FAT QUARTERS to this sew-in.  Material will be cut from 12-3 pm and building the quilts will continue from 3-9 pm.   This time is reserved for building the Quilts of Valor so this is a free workshop day.  There is a nominal charge for the pattern book, which will be available to purchase at the April meeting and at the sew-in.  Although there is some donated material, there is not enough for all.  Please bring 20 red/white/blue fat quarters with you.

Turning 20 Workshop:  If you want to make your own Turning 20 quilt, we are working to secure a venue for the workshop on 22 April at Bethel.  Mary Ann will reach out to all who have signed up with details as plans firm.  We moved the date for this workshop by 1 week as originally planned to allow time for you all to attend the Shop Hop (see above) and to purchase materials required for the Workshop.  The pattern books will be available at the April Guild meeting for purchase at the 11 April Guild meeting for full directions for material needs required.  Cost for the workshop is $25.

May
9 May:  The Guild meeting 9 May will host Cassandra Ireland-Beaver with samples of her beautiful paper piecing creations.  Check out her work online – there are multiple sites to preview her work.

10 May:  Ms Ireland-Beaver will present “Raise the Roof” foundation paper piecing class on May 10.  It will be held at Enon Knob Prairie Church.  Cost is $50 for members and a $12 pattern fee (pattern fee paid to the instructor).  Non-members pay an additional $10 for the class.  A complete materials list will be available at the April meeting.  In addition, Mary Ann will be available at the meeting to sign up additional people and answer any questions you may have.

13 May:  Hexified Panels Class with Liz Granberg-Jerome from Gypsy Dreamer Quilts.  Liz is offering a one- or two-day option.   The Class will be held at Bethel Community Church from 9 am-5 pm on Saturday.  A complete materials list will be available at the April meeting.  In addition, Mary Ann will be available at the meeting to sign up additional people and answer any questions you may have.  A Flyer explaining this class will also be available at the Guild meeting.
