From the President and Vice President:
Announcements: · Our next Guild meeting is on Tuesday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m. We will start on-time. Our meetings are always held the 2nd Tuesday of the month. · We are still seeking any interested members to run for three offices for the Guild: President, Vice President, and Secretary. Please contact MaryAnn or Michelle if you are interested in running. Elections will be held in November to instate Officers for Calendar Year 2024. · Thank you to everyone for your eager participation last month in the basket auction…what an amazing contribution in baskets – so many and thoughtfully assembled and contributed to our Guild. And thank you too to everyone who participated in the good-spirited auctioning. With all the members participation, this event raised nearly $1,000!! A grateful thanks to Sherry G and Shari B for organizing this very successful event. · Two new volunteers joined the Guild Committee team last month: -- Our new Hospitality Chair is Connie M. Connie will have a big initiation for our upcoming Christmas Carry-In, with help from many who have done this before. -- Our new Sunshine Chair is Barb W. Barb can be contacted by email (see your directory) or through any of the Officers or Committee Chairs. If you are aware of any Guild member, or their immediate family (husband, wife, children) who need recognition and encouragement from the Guild for challenging times in their lives please let Barb know and she will take care of sending out cards on behalf of the Guild. It is vital to keep our Guild member family in our thoughts at time of need. · Please find your name badge and wear it to Guild meetings. It is a good way to get to know each other, an ice-breaker for new folks, and a conversation starter. Lost your Guild name badge? Make one! Get creative – but prominently display your name! You never know when there will be a surprise pop-up drawing for a little thank-you gift for wearing your name tag! · After a couple of months break, the 50/50 raffle will return this month. Buy your tickets prior to the start of the Guest Speaker presentation. We want to honor our guest's time without noise or distractions. Thank you! · We also hope to have time, after the guest speaker, to do show-and-tell. We are a large group and have limited time, so we ask that our sharing is limited to 2 items per person. · MVQG Board Meetings: -- Last meeting was held in early September where the MVQG 2024 Budgets were set. Please see our website for a copy of those minutes. -- Our next Board meeting will be held Thursday, November 9, at Sharing Stitches Conference Room in Xenia. We plan to discuss planning for next year as well as a review of each Committee business. You are all welcome to attend if desired. Guild Meeting October: We are very happy to announce that in October we will have Laura Gilmartin from Virginia as our guest presenter, who will also host two teaching workshop events. Laura is an award-winning thread painting and Tsinko inks artist. You will be impressed with her knowledge and tips. This is a great way to add to your project knowledge. We are very fortunate to have acquired Laura and her time! She was interested in seeing the shop hop at the Nutter Center which is occurring at this same time and was gracious to provide teaching opportunities for our Guild members. It is very special for our Guild as she will not be teaching at the Nutter. Her presentation/lecture at our MVQG October meeting (Enon Knob Prairie Church) begins at 7 p.m. and is titled "Art is a Many Splendored Seam”. In addition, she will be instructing two, hands-on workshops/classes. Space will be limited, so sign up early! Classes are listed below. Also, you can find the information on our website calendar including pictures of workshop projects. Tsinko Inks Tulip Class: Wednesday, October 11: 12:30-4:30 p.m., Bethel location. You will want to bring different colors and textures of threads and fibers to work with. See calendar site for more details. November We will surprise you with home-grown fun. We will have an added value that night of how to prepare our entries for quilt shows or judging. Watch for details in next month’s newsletter. We are preparing a new game to add to your stash and use your creative talents! You’ll have another opportunity for show-and-tell. We will also hold the election and installation for Officers for our upcoming 2024 year!! If you would like to shadow, in consideration of serving in the future, please call or text me (Mary Ann 724-757-7012). I would be happy to answer any questions or refer you to a resource. As an officer, you will interact with several groups inside the Guild. While it requires a lot of time and energy…there are places to serve that many people share the efforts. Thanks to everyone who serves…whether an officer or a chairperson. Being an officer and serving on committee positions gives a new depth of information about how things work. Through your generosity of time and talent, we were able to survive the pandemic and grow our Guild’s reach. You will make new friends and have fun along the way.
