Guild meeting is coming up Tuesday, September 13, beginning at 7 p.m. Lots going on the next few months. Carefully read the E-News for important information.
NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT Happy Autumn, everyone! Don’t forget to turn in your budgets for next year. You know who you are. For those that may not know or as a reminder, we need a new President AND a new Vice President starting in January 2023. Please consider stepping up to fill these positions. Our October meeting plan is to have some demos and show and tell. In addition, we will be selling $5 bags of fabric and may even have a challenge coming your way. We will also reveal our Christmas block for December’s luncheon. Remember, there is NO meeting in November. Sherry G, President NEWS FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT Tuesday, September 13, Gyleen X. Fitzgerald, quilter and writer, will give her presentation: Path to Modern. On Wednesday, September 14, Gyleen will teach her Caribbean Star 2 class from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Cost - Guild Members - $45, Non-Guild Members - $50. There is also a pattern fee and required tool; both may be purchased from Gyleen. There are 5 openings for Gyleen's class. Please remember our new policy pertaining to workshop/class cancellations. But after looking at class fees for the Houston International Quilt Show, very few classes are less than $75 with all day classes ranging from $75 to $175. We are very fortunate to have Gyleen and may other national and/or international teachers. There will be no show and tell for September due to our having a national speaker. Looking ahead to our October meeting. It would be great to have you, our talented guild members, share some easy and fun Christmas gift ideas. Please send me an email at [email protected] if you would like to participate in a short demo. Show and tell will return at this meeting. Sandy H, Vice President MEMBERSHIP Be sure to let me know if you have changed your email or other contact information so your membership record remains up to date. Thanks. Tere H, Membership RETREAT TIME! It is time to start thinking about our annual retreat. The Retreat Committee has been working on our plan to make sure you have a great retreat. The Retreat will be held at the Wingate Hotel in Fairborn February 18-20, 2023. The theme this year is "Quilting with My Peeps". Click here for registration packet information. We will start taking registrations at our October 11 meeting beginning at 6 p.m. We will have the seating chart there and you will be able to pick your spot, providing, of course, that you have paid your $50 deposit. Spots fill up quickly so if you have plans to sit with friends, make sure you all get your registrations and $50 in early to ensure that you get a spot. We are all looking forward to the retreat and hope that you can join us this year. Carol G, Retreat Chair QUILTS OF VALOR I hope that all of you who signed up are working on your blocks for our Scrap Busting Block Drive!! Please bring your blocks to the OCTOBER meeting - looking forward to seeing how everyone uses their scraps! Thank you for participating! We continue to work on our two big QOV presentations for the fall - 7 quilts for Crestview Baptist Church in Clayton for October and 14 quilts for the Beavercreek Senior Center in November. Thanks to all who are helping with piecing, quilting, and binding (and making pillowcases)! Things are going according to schedule! So, now to the hard part - some of you know that the Ginsburgs are in the process of building a house (getting on one floor, 5 miles away from where we live now), which will hopefully be finished by March-April 2023. Between the building of the house, decluttering and packing up the present house, moving, then getting the present house ready to sell, much has been added to our lives. Because of that, there has to be some subtraction of other things. After coordinating our Quilts of Valor project for the last 10 years, I will be stepping aside at the end of this year. Together, we have honored so many veterans and I'm grateful to all of you for this shared endeavor. Because we have had such great participation in this project, I am hoping that one (or two) people will feel called (as I really do believe that it is a ministry) to coordinate and lead the group/guild in continuing our work, as there are many veterans and active military in the area who would love to be honored with a Quilt of Valor! We have great systems and resources in place, so it is not something where you have to "reinvent the wheel", (plus I'm a phone call away for consultation). The friendships that have been made will always be treasured, and are a wonderful by-product of all of our hard work. If you are interested in helping to continue this project, I can fill you in with the details. Debbie G Quilts of Valor Coordinator [email protected] OTHER NEWS Remembrance Quilt Guild in Springfield, will be holding a basket/container auction on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at Northminster Church on Villa Road. Woohoo, no more stairs to climb unless you want to. The new location is 492 W. Second St., Suite 201, in Xenia. In keeping with their philosophy of making quilting fun, affordable and educational, they are expanding and adding a classroom. Their first class will be a bottle gift bag. Perfect time to get started for Christmas gifts or any occasion depending on the fabric. The quiltsmart interfacing to make the bag is included in the cost of the class. The cost is only $40.
