The Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF) is a national organization founded in 2003 by “Blue Star” mom Catherine Roberts. With a son deployed in Iraq - a gunner sitting atop a Humvee – she felt ten seconds away from panic 24 hours a day, every day. It was during that time her son was deployed that she conceived the idea of comforting veterans with quilts.  This foundation (www.qovf.org) has grown over the years and has awarded more than 250,000 quilts to veterans and active military who have given so much to our country.

The Miami Valley Quilters' Guild became active with QOVF beginning in November 2012, with a “Make A Star for a Veteran” block drive.  Over 100 12” finished quilt blocks were donated that year and made into our first Quilts of Valor.  This block drive is now an annual favorite, and our members make and donate between 200–400 blocks each year. Individuals can enjoy their favorite part of quilting (piecing, quilting, or binding) or make complete quilts.  Groups also work together at monthly sew-ins at an area quilt shop. The guild has now awarded over 350 Quilts of Valor since that November 2012 meeting!

To request more information about how to nominate a family member or friend to receive a Quilt of Valor, please click on the email icon at the bottom of this page. Your email will be forwarded to the Guild's Quilts of Valor coordinator who will be in contact with you.   We would love to honor your nominee!

2021 Year-End Report

Our ninth year of Quilts of Valor has been our biggest yet!!  We have surpassed awarding 500 quilts as a guild (which included 124 quilts in 2021)!!
So many "thank yous" go out to the piecers, quilters, binders, requesters, presenters, our treasurer, and people who have donated fabric and money.  Guild members are taking the initiative to organize their own presentations (group and individual), yet want them listed as part of our guild totals.  It warms my heart!
I hope that you enjoy reading "2021 By The Numbers" - it really speaks to what this guild has done in our community and beyond!

We only had three months of QOV sew-ins, because of COVID, but had parking lot meet-ups during the other months.  Lots of work at home this year!  With The Little Shop of Stitches going online only in January 2022, we are in the process of securing another place for our monthly sew-ins.  Plans are in the works, but not finalized yet.  Hopefully we will have news in the Spring!  And as always, we have lots of tops - need long arm quilters!  E-mail me at debgins@aol.com, if you can help with quilting!
Eternally grateful for all of you and your dedication to our military.
Debbie G, Quilts of Valor Coordinator
