June 13 Guild Meeting
Taught by Belinda Bashore (see above), this workshop is geared toward making memories with or for a loved one. It would be a great project with a child or a friend. Workshop cost is $30 for MVQG members; $40 for non-members. Ms. Bashore will supply the fusible. We will have an assortment of navy 2 ½ inch sashing that you can use. What you need to bring: Nine T-shirts or Blocks (if you want to use another color for sashing, other than the navy we will provide please bring that with you as well), a 15- or 16-inch square ruler, sewing machine, thread and sewing supplies. We will have cutting mats, irons, and ironing boards. Class will produce a quilt top which will need binding, backing to finish the quilt. Go to Calendar on this website to see sample project. There is still time to sign up for the workshop! Contact Mary Ann at (724) 757-7012. Upcoming Events: July 11: Skills Hop. Several volunteers have stepped forward to show off skills and talents with sewing/quilting/shortcuts for a Skills Hop Evening of fun and good exchange of talent. We could use a few more volunteers! Come on out to enjoy 15-minute skill building workshops. At the end of each 15-minute period, a timer will go off and you will move along to another. A good time to socialize and learn (or share) new ideas. This will be a fun event! Please plan to join in! August 8/9: Karen Miller, Redbird Quilt Co will present Aurifilosophy Slide Show and Quilt Show at our guild meeting on August 8. Ms Miller is an Aurifil Designer and will showcase her many artful designs with the use of Aurifil threads, exploring the nature and behavior of these threads. Please view her website (redbirdquiltco.com) for some sampling of her beautiful creations. She will be presenting many of these and more at our August meeting. As stated on her website, she plans to “share her Aurifil-centric trunk of quilts, a wealth of guilty information and inspiration, exclusive Aurifil resources, and swag”. Please note as well, Ms. Miller will be hosting a workshop on August 9 to share her free-motion quilting (FMQ) knowledge as a simple panel is used to embellish with FMQ using Aurifil thread. You will learn FMQ techniques using your own sewing machine and take away a beautiful small panel quilt using FMQ. See the Calendar section of this website to see list of supplies–many materials are provided. Plan on attending the unique workshop. September 12: Basket Auction. More information will be available at the Guild meeting in June. QUILTS OF VALOR Sew-ins are coming along fantastic. Thank you helping out with this worthy cause. We are going to need volunteers to man the table all three days and volunteers to act as ambassadors for the expo. Peggy Doyle will be coordinating volunteers for this event. If you would like to volunteer as an Ambassador for the expo, you can go to their site https://sewingexpo.com/Volunteer and sign up, which also gets you in free to the event. There are multiple volunteer opportunities and time periods available. If you do sign up as an ambassador, please let Peggy know so we are able to let the event planners know who our members are, as it is not part of the registration process. If you are volunteering as an Ambassador, please consider possibly sitting at our raffle table for an hour or so that day as well. We have up to 18 spots over the three days for those who volunteer solely for our raffle table that would allow you to enter the event for free. Questions, reach out to Peggy Doyle, 937-671-8499 or [email protected]. Thank you! Emilie T., Quilt Show Chair COMMUNITY PROJECTS I currently have 10 quilts ready to go to Hospice and 3 more going to Jeremiah's Letter. After that, I am out of quilts. I do have a number of tops that need sandwiched and quilted as well as a lot of blocks that need to be put together and completed. I will have some of these with me at the meeting on June 13, so if you are interested in helping, come see me! If you need to purchase batting or backing for these, just see that I get the receipt and you will be reimbursed. Thank you to all who have been helping and those that will be helping.
