From the President:
So far we've had a rather mild winter but we still need to get through February and March. To reiterate, we will be posting on FB and sending out a mass email around 2 p.m. the day of each monthly meeting if we are canceling the meeting. Start checking for the posting or email around 2:30 p.m. or so. A new directory is underway and simplified from what we've had in the past. If you recall, Ed Chamness had great connections to get our directory done but we no longer have those options. So you will be getting a new listing but be aware, it will look a bit different. Be Safe and Stay Healthy, Sherry G, President Membership Dues Reminder that membership dues must be paid by the February guild meeting. All outstanding members will be dropped from the guild list and not be included in the new directory. Tere H, Membership Chair Retreat info Everyone should have received a listing of what to bring or not to forget to our retreat. If you were unable to print this off, we will have a few copies at the February meeting. Please remember that our meetings as well as our annual retreat is SCENT FREE. It is not mandated to wear masks at the retreat but you are welcome to do so if you feel more comfortable. We will have 2 young men available to help with your equipment upon arrival as well as departure on Monday. Please take advantage of this when you arrive and please don't forget to TIP. They have experience (we've had them before) and will carefully take you inside. Snack table - Due to the pandemic and keeping things as safe as possible, if you bring anything to share for the snack table, please just bring pre-packaged goodies. Please, no homemade items. Name tags – Reminder that everyone will need to wear name tags at the retreat. Please feel free to wear a name tag from a previous retreat or make your own; otherwise sticky name tags will be provided. Games – We will have two types of games, along with the popular Bobbin Game! For one of the games you will need three fat quarters. For the other you will need four items. It can be fat quarters, thread, rulers you don’t use or any other sewing notion. More information about the games will be provided at the retreat. Demo – Kathy will be doing a cord wrapper demonstration at the retreat. You will need at least an 11” x 16” piece of fabric. She will be providing the rest of the materials needed for this project. We look forward to a good time, filled with fun stuff and lots of laughs. Be safe and see you all soon. Sherry G, Retreat Chair Quilt Show Raffle The raffle quilt, which has been named Spring Garden, is finished. Raffle tickets will be available at the February guild meeting. We need everyone in the guild to help sell tickets! Click here to see a picture of the raffle quilt. This quilt was hand-colored using permanent fabric markers. Thanks to Kim and all who helped her to prepare this fabulous quilt. Scrap Fabric – Sheila is collecting scraps to make scrap bags for sale at the Quilt Show. Please start bringing in your scraps to the guild meetings. Make sure fabric is clean, pet hair free and at least larger than 5 inches. Quilts of Valor News We are delaying a number of QOV presentations until March-April, given the amount of sickness going around. Lots of sewing still happening and we’re looking forward to spring when we can hopefully start back up monthly sew-ins! I won’t be at the February guild meeting, so if you have anything to turn in, please hold on to it until the March meeting. Thanks. Debbie G, Quilts of Valor Coordinator News from the Vice President Get ready to enjoy an evening with Moda designer, Deb Strain on February 8. Deb lives locally and will grace us with her art and quilting journey. Her recent fabric line for Moda, Effie’s Woods, is gorgeous! Deb will share original artwork and the accompanying quilts. The word on the street is Deb’s bringing door prizes and lots of items for sale: fabric, panels, greeting cards, etc. So mark your calendar for February 8 at 7:00 p.m. and while you’re anxiously waiting for the guild meeting, here is Deb’s Moda website to check out: https://my.modafabrics.com/designers/deb-strain March brings us Reeze Hanson! Join us on March 8 for a trunk show and presentation entitled, “Color Confidence for Quilters: Or Why You Should Trust Your Hunches.” Reeze will explore basic color theory from a quilter’s perspective and show how to develop your own color confidence based on your instincts and intuition. On March 9, Reeze will give the workshops listed below. The fee is only $25 for both workshops which run from 9-4 at the church. Several spots are still open for this fun and exciting opportunity. If you are interested in visiting Reeze Hanson’s website (or would like to see pictures of the charm pack projects), go to https://www.morningglorydesigns.com/ Charm Pack Projects: Half Hex Topper or Triangle Topper. These are easy projects that only require 1 charm pack and a little bit of yardage for a border. They can be completed in a 4 hour class, but work best in a full day workshop where there is time for additional tips and tricks for using charm packs. Half Hex or Triangle acrylic template (Missouri Star Quilt Co.) are available as a kit in the class. To sign up, email [email protected].
