Hello Miami Valley Quilters' Guild!

Just a quick note that someone is using my name to solicit gift cards for the guild. This is a scam – please don’t respond to these requests! We will never ask you to send gift cards or money. 

On a happier note, the weather is warming up and the days are getting longer. It's a great time to get out to the guild meeting to mingle with your fellow quilters. Plus, we have a great speaker this month that you won't want to miss! We plan to do a 50/50 raffle this month so bring a dollar or two if you'd like to participate.
 
We won't have show and tell this month to leave time for our speaker, but we do plan to have show & tell in May. We'd love to see what you've been creating, including those who have been working on the group challenge.
 
Thank you to everyone who has brought in scraps for the scrap bag sale at the quilt show. We would like to have all scrap donations brought in by the April meeting. It's a time-consuming process to sort and bag them and the quilt show is quickly approaching.

Join us for Linda Hahn’s ‘New York State of Mind’ lecture and trunk show, showcasing how versatile the New York Beauty block can be! She will be hosting 2 great workshops on April 10 and April 11. Spots are still available for her workshops! View more details here.

May Guild Meeting – Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30pm
We will be reviewing over any quilt show plans and needs during the May meeting, plus have show and tell for any projects you’d like to show off and to see our challenge quilts! We will also have a short speaker program from a couple of the groups that we donate quilts to – Jeremiah’s Letter and Bridges. They want to say thank you, let you know how much your generosity means, plus answer any questions you may have. 
 
From the Vice President & Workshops: 
We still have spots available for the workshop classes listed below. They are a great value, lots of fun and a great opportunity to learn together from some amazing teachers. Non-members are open to sign-up as well, if you'd like to bring a friend! Their cost is $10 more.
· April 10: Linda Hahn’s Wicked Wahini; $45 + $30 kit fee

• April 11: Linda Hahn’s Guyon Grey; $55 + $30 kit fee
• June 12-13: Liz Granberg Hexified Panel; 1- or 2-day option available; $75 + kit fee (ranges from $15-$45, based on your pattern & precut kit of choice)

Our upcoming sew-ins are below. Please contact me by email if you plan to attend any sew-ins.
 April:

• April 4 at Sharing at Sharing Stitches in Xenia from 10am – 3pm. Bring a lunch or Super Subby’s is right across the street.
• April 17 at Crestview Baptist Church in Clayton from 10am – pm. Bring a lunch, as there is nothing close by.

May:

• May 2 at Sharing at Sharing Stitches in Xenia from 10am – 3pm. Bring a lunch or Super Subby’s is right across the street.

Community Quilts
We are still collecting small lap quilts for hospice. I will not be at the April meeting, so if you have any donations for hospice, please wait to bring them in until the May meeting.
 
Also, Melody H. is gathering the twin and queen size quilts (at least 54’x90’ or larger) for the Ronald McDonald House.

Sunshine ☀️
Just as a reminder, if you know someone who is sick, lost a loved one or could use a little cheer, please send me their name and I will gladly send a card from the guild. This is a gesture put in place to spread sunshine to our members and will be kept private. Email me at [email protected] or you can call or text me at 937-623-4934.

2024 Quilt Show
Our 2024 Quilt Show will be here before you know it, on May 31 and June 1 from 10am – 4pm! Please continue to bring in your scrap donations and if you happen to have clear pants hangers with the clip you squeeze, not the metal slider ones, we’d be happy to take them off your hands! We had some breakage of hangers last year and would like to have a few extra, just in case.
 
Quilt Submissions: 
On April 10, the website will be open to start submitting your quilts. When you visit www.quiltshowmvqg.com, go to the “more” category and in the dropdown menu you’ll see “guild member show information”, then choose “exhibit submission form”. Entries are limited to 6 per member, but if we need more quilts, we will come to you with that request. Deadline for submission is May 10.
 
Raffle Tickets:
Raffle tickets are still available. We will have them at the quilt show table at our next meeting as usual. If you have tickets and money to turn in, you can do it at that time as well. We still have some open volunteer spots for our raffle quilt table at the upcoming One Stop Shop Hop on April 12 and April 13. A sign-up sheet will also be available at the meeting.
 
Volunteer Opportunities:
There are several volunteer opportunities for the show of all kinds, and we will have signup sheets at our meetings! If you forgot what you signed up for you can check on the quilt show website. We will regularly update that, but it will only show your first name and last initial. 
 
If you are planning a trip to Columbus, Cincinnati, or shops in Indiana and would be willing to take some quilt show bookmarks, please see Emilie at the meeting.
 
Business Owner opportunity: 
If you are a member and have a business, we are allowing those people to put something in our bags for new members at the show. If you would like to add a flier, coupon, etc. please let Debbie B, membership chair know! We are using small bags this year, approx. 8x10 so please be mindful of size. Also, if you’d like to donate a door prize, please let us know and we can get you in touch with Cindy M. There is no minimum value for those interested.

Guild Sew-ins
Did you know regular sew-ins are held at the Fairborn Senior Center? For non-guild members, the cost is $2, but for guild members it’s only $1! We meet every Monday from 11am – 4pm, plus the second and fourth Fridays of the month from 11am – 4pm. Come join the fun!
 
Events in the community:
On Monday, April 8, the Pieceful Stitchers Quilt Club is hosting Debbie Strain, Moda fabric designer, at the Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church – 7505 Taylorsville Road, Huber Heights. Doors open at 5:45pm, start at 6pm. Cost is $5 for non-Pieceful Stitchers club members and there will be door prizes and merchandise available.
 
On Saturday, April 20, the 2024 Sunbury Piece Corps quilt show is being held at the Sunbury United Methodist Church from 9am – 3pm. Admission is a $5 donation. They will have many vendors, display of over 200 quilts, demos, plus their “Granny’s Attic” for the bargain hunters to find deals on donated fabric and quilt supplies.
