A Note from our President
We are happy to announce that we have filled all of our board positions! Thank you to everyone who stepped up. We wouldn't have a guild without you. ❤️
This month we welcome Alicia Thomas from the Virginia Quilt Museum in Dayton, VA. She will share a lecture and trunk show on the history of quilting. We will also have a Quilts of Valor presentation at the meeting this month. There is still space to sign up for the February retreat, and the lunch menu is now available. Check here for more information. Our December meeting will be our annual Christmas party. 🎄Bring a handmade item to exchange. It can be anything homemade: quilted, knit or crochet, papercrafted, soap, homemade preserves or food items. Can't wait to see what you've created! Also, please bring a main dish or side dish to share for our Christmas meal. Don't forget the Christmas block challenge. Blocks will be raffled at the Christmas party in December. You will receive one raffle ticket for each block you turn in. The winner receives blocks to make a quilt. Last year we had enough blocks for four winners! We will reveal a new quilt challenge at the December meeting. Watch for more information coming soon. Melody H, President Upcoming Events The website calendar is updated through the end of the year, and we have exciting things scheduled for 2026. We will welcome Cassandra Beaver in March, Alice Ridge in August, and Angela Pingel in November. Details soon. Our December meeting will be our annual holiday potluck dinner. Prepare your best dish to share, and please gift wrap your handmade contribution to our gift exchange. As mentioned by Melody, turn in your Christmas ornament blocks at the December meeting for a chance to win the raffle! Thank you, Debbie M, Vice President Quilts of Valor Update There is a lot going on behind the scenes with our Quilts of Valor project. Four ladies have stepped up to form a QOV committee (Sherry G, Linda M, Rebecca L, and Tracy W), and you will be hearing more from them in the future. We are in the process of making sure that all presentations are covered that were already scheduled for the week of Veterans Day, assessing what QOV supplies there are, figuring out storage options, plus envisioning how things will look moving forward. The November guild meeting is the collection time for the Scrap Busting Block Challenge! Twenty-seven of you have picked up scrap bags to make 12-1/2" unfinished blocks to be used in Quilts of Valor. Please bring any finished blocks with you to the November meeting (or try to send them in with another member). You don't have to turn in any extra scraps. For each bag of blocks that you turn in, your name will be entered into a drawing for a local quilt store gift card. We really appreciate each of you making these blocks! During the Fall Retreat, Bonnie M organized QOV block kits. She received enough to make 2-3 quilts! Everyone who made a block (you should have signed a paper at the retreat with how many you made) will have their name entered into a drawing (separate from the Scrap Busting Block Challenge) to also win a local quilt store gift card. Thank you for sewing! QOV sew-ins will resume after the first of the year—more info to come later! Thanks! Debbie G 2026 Quilt Show Raffle Quilt Our raffle quilt had its public debut at the Sewing & Quilting Expo in October. We sold 777 tickets at the show—a good start. Thank you to everyone who showed up to sell raffle tickets and talk about the guild, and an extra special thanks to those who volunteered their time and talents as Expo Ambassadors. More on raffle tickets next month! –Stephanie W Scrap City It’s time to start collecting donations for Scrap City. Please sort through your stash for quilting cottons you are willing to part with. Contributions should be no smaller than 5” squares, but feel free to bring in large cuts as well. Precuts are also welcome! We’ve already received some layer cakes and jelly rolls. See Deanna T for more information. 2026 Membership Those wishing to submit membership forms and annual dues before the January meeting may download the new form here. A Note from our President
Hello Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild! It's hard to believe we're already in October. This weather has been phenomenal! This month Brian McCoy, The Redneck Quilter™, returns with a new lecture and trunk show for our October meeting. His QOV themed class will be held Friday and Saturday after the meeting to hopefully accommodate those who can't normally attend a Wednesday class. We will hold our annual Board elections at the October meeting. Our voted positions are President, Vice president, Treasurer and Secretary. Thank you Kim for giving such a great overview of each position at the September Quarter Auction. :) We need to fill multiple positions at this time:
We are so thankful that a group of ladies has stepped up to take over Quilts of Valor from Patty Hardin. Please keep Patty in your thoughts and prayers as she continues her recovery. Our Christmas raffle block pattern was given out last month. If you were not there or did not receive one "click here" for the pattern. Blocks will be gathered at the December meeting and raffled. You will receive one ticket for each block you submit. The doors will open at 5:00 before this month’s meeting for February retreat registration. It would be very helpful if you would print your registration form and bring it filled out to expedite sign ups. I'm sorry we haven't had time for show and tell. Once again it's going to be a very full meeting. We will have more time for show and tell in November and December. See you soon! Melody H., President Upcoming Events The website calendar is updated through the end of the year. Join us for a two-day workshop with the Redneck Quilter™ for only $45. The workshop will be Friday, October 17 - Saturday, October 18. This is a QOV themed pattern and the supply list will be provided upon registration. We are excited to have Alicia Thomas from the Virginia Quilt Museum in Dayton, VA scheduled for our November meeting to share her lecture on “History of Quilting.” Her visit was originally planned for May, but she was ill and had to cancel. Our December meeting will be our annual holiday potluck dinner. Start planning your favorite recipe and prepare for a handmade gift exchange. As mentioned by Melody, turn in your Christmas ornament blocks at the December meeting for a chance to win the raffle. Thank you, Debbie M., Vice President Sewing and Quilt Expo–Sharonville/Cincinnati The MVQG participates biannually in the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in Sharonville to recruit new members and to sell raffle tickets for our Quilt Show Raffle Quilt. To do this, we need your help in our booth. Please check the schedule here and email [email protected] to sign up to help in the booth. To get the $900+ vendor booth for FREE, we need to provide a number of volunteers for the Expo as well. Please click here to read about volunteer opportunities and sign up with the Expo. Volunteering gets you free entry to the show. Contact Stephanie W. at the quilt show email above or call with any questions. Quilting FUN-da-MENTALs: Winter 2026 Retreat The time is here for the February 2026 retreat sign ups! Doors will open at 5:00 before this month’s meeting. If possible, bring your completed registration form with you. You will find it here. We will have forms for those unable to print in advance. You will also need your $50 cash or check payment to reserve your spot. Spots fill up quickly so plan to attend or send your form and money with a friend to ensure a seat. For hotel information please see a retreat committee member. Additional Opportunities Many of you remember that we had Barb Triscari from the Sacred Threads International Quilt Show as a speaker. The show debuts in Indianapolis this year. It will be bi-annually on the opposite years that we hold our own quilt show. This year it runs from the day before Halloween to the Marine Corp ball (October 30–March 9). It has wonderful artists from around the globe. If you have never participated behind the scenes, I encourage you to call me asap at 724-757-7012. We still have spots left for volunteers. As a volunteer you get free admission to the show. You work a morning or afternoon shift and are free to roam the rest of the day. We would like to support the show as a way of giving back to the arts community and our fellow quilters. Grab a friend and see me for a day of making memories. Thanks, Mary Ann Clifford |
