Happy New Year Miami Valley Quilters' Guild!
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas season! Thanks again to Connie and her band of merry helpers for all the work they put in for the Christmas party and to everyone who brought food and made decorations. I'd also like to thank Mary Ann and Pat for all of the hard work they put into programs for the last 2 years. I hope you know how much you are loved and appreciated. We are welcoming Debbie Miller as our new Vice President. Thank you, Debbie, for stepping up! Guild dues for 2025 are $25 and are due this month. Please print your membership form if you are able and have it filled out when you come to the meeting. There will also be forms available at the meeting. Our quilt retreat is quickly approaching. You will be able to pre-order meals for retreat at the January and February meetings. There will also be a retreat committee meeting at 5:30 before the regular meeting. The January meeting will be held at the Knob Prairie Church in Enon on January 14. Doors open at 5:30 and the meeting will start promptly at 6:30. See below for meeting details. Looking forward to seeing you soon! Melody H., president Upcoming meetings: Saturday, January 11: 2025 Challenge Kick-Off Gathering 1pm We are excited to have a 2025 sew-a-long challenge for the guild today, January 11 at 1pm. If you are interested, be sure to join! Please note, this will be located at the Bethel Community Church. The main roads around the church are an emergency route, so they are always plowed first, and the parking lot will be plowed. Our kick-off meeting will include a small potluck! Thanks to those who signed up at our December meeting to bring a dish. You can stay until 7 with your group, you can even bring your machine for an open-sew. Feel free to use this time however you'd like! We will create our groups based on geographic locations to create opportunities to meet with new (and old) quilting friends to work on this challenge together - all while staying a bit closer to home! We will review the details of this challenge along with receiving your challenge fabric that will need to be included in some way. Then you'll meet with your group to decide on details like sewing meetups, plans, and more. January Guild Meeting – Tuesday, January 14 at 6:30pm Carly Evans from Yellow Springs Art Council and Roxie Fiske, a local artist and children's author, will be joining us in January to share their “Miami Valley Scenes & Dreams” lecture. Retreat lunch ordering, workshop signups and member registration for the year will also be taking place during our January meeting! Upcoming Board Meeting – Thursday, February 6 at 6:00pm Location: Wingard Building 492 W 2nd St, Xenia Oh 45387 Members are welcome to attend. February Guild Meeting – Tuesday, February 11 at 6:30pm Kathy Gordon from Kwilty Pleasures will be joining us for a lecture and trunk show! Kathy is an Ohio native from Blacklick. She'll be sharing her lecture "My 30 Year Quilting Journey...A Modern Traditionalist Path". A Kwilty Pleasure, by Kathy's definition, is anything fabric or fiber that puts a smile on your face and fills your creative soul with pleasure! She will host the workshop on “destashing and color values” the following day. From the Vice President & Workshops: The guild has planned some wonderful events for this year, and I am excited to be the VP this year! To introduce myself a little bit, I have been quilting for about 20 years and really enjoy the creativity from choosing a pattern, selecting fabric and piecing the quilt. I am still working on my quilting skills and learning to use my new embroidery machine. Last year, I had a great time attending the Paducah Quilt Show and traveling all over for the Ohio Shop Hop. After retirement, I have been able to do more traveling and attend several quilt retreats. However, I still have plenty of UFO projects to finish and a fabric stash to last a lifetime. We are still taking sign-ups for our February and March workshops with Kathy Gordon from Kwilty Pleasures. In February she will be leading a workshop on "destashing and color values", plus pre-cutting for our March workshop. In March, she will be leading a workshop on the pattern Plaidish Quilt. This great opportunity is only $40 to sign-up for both workshops combined, $50 for non-members! Please contact me if you have any questions or program ideas as I start planning for our 2026 calendar of events. And remember - friends are like fabric, you can never have enough! Thank you, Debra, Vice President Quilt Retreat: Lunch order forms are now available if you’d like to have lunch delivered for Saturday, Sunday or Monday of the retreat. It would be appreciated if you could print and fill out the form ahead of the meeting. The forms and all current retreat information can be found here. All orders are due by February 11. You can turn into the retreat table at the guild meeting. Remember, if you plan to tsay at the hotel, you will need to make your reservation with the hotel directly. If you are still interested in joining the retreat, please contact Carol Gibson at [email protected], she will reach out with any available spots as they open up! Thank you, Retreat Committee Membership It’s that time of year to pay our dues for 2025. You can find your membership form to print and fill out here. You can mail your membership form and $25 fee or pay in person at an upcoming meeting. This email list will be updated after the January meeting to only include our members. Reach out if you have any issues or questions. Thank you, Debbie B., Membership chair Guild Sew-ins Did you know regular sew-ins are held at the Fairborn Senior Center? Happy Sewing, Patty Hardin, QOV Chair Sunshine ️ Just as a reminder, if you know someone who is sick, lost a loved one or could use a little cheer especially around the holidays, please send me their name and I will gladly send a card from the guild. This is a gesture put in place to spread sunshine to our members and will be kept private. Email me at [email protected] or you can call or text me at 937-623-4934. Thank you, Barb Walthall, Sunshine Chair In and Around the Community
