Hello Miami Valley Quilters' Guild!
The time is here for the February 2025 retreat sign ups. Doors will open at 5:00. If possible, please bring your completed registration form with you. You will find it here. There will be forms available for those unable to print from the website. You will also need your $50 cash or check payment to reserve your spot. Spots fill up quickly so plan to attend or send your form and money with a friend to ensure a seat. For hotel information please see a retreat committee member. Since doors are opening early, Connie has graciously offered to coordinate refreshments. If you can help bring anything, please text or call Connie at (937) 212-0390. Come and enjoy some time to visit before the meeting starts at 6:30. The Christmas block challenge will begin this month. It is a simple applique mitten block. A template and instructions will be available to pick up at the meeting. The blocks will be raffled at the December meeting. You'll receive a ticket for each completed block. No limit. The last couple of years we've had enough blocks for two winners! Have fun. We'll also plan for show and tell this month after our speaker from Sacred Threads. Hope to see you there! Melody H., president Upcoming meetings: October Guild Meeting – Tuesday, October 8 at 6:30pm Doors open at 5pm to begin retreat registration! View all the retreat details and your form here. As a reminder any retreat and membership dues must be paid separately. October will bring a program and show from Barb Tuscari with Sacred Threads. The new venue for this amazing international quilt show is now in our backyard. It has a beautiful setting in Indianapolis! Following their presentation, we will have show and tell. November Guild Meeting – Tuesday, October 8 at 6:30pm One of our great fundraisers for the year is back – the Basket Raffle/Quarter Auction! All members are invited to create and donate “baskets” of items to be auctioned off throughout the night! Baskets are made in all sizes and many themes from sewing, food, wellness, etc. This is a great fundraiser for the guild to support our various activities. Be sure to bring your quarters, basket, and be ready for a night of fun! We will send out more information about the auction next week! Hospitality: Greetings from the hospitality committee! This month's meeting will include a casual social during retreat sign-ups to enjoy each other’s company and hopefully meet a new member or someone new to you! We thought it would be nice to have a light menu of finger foods during the social. I will be making a few finger sandwiches. If anyone is willing to bring anything, please let me know! We will also have cake and drinks. Please text or call me at (937) 212-0390 as soon as you can, if you can bring something. I will be bringing plates and napkins, so I will just need to know ahead of time to plan accordingly. Thank you, Connie, Hospitality Chair From the Vice President & Workshops: Happy Fall, Y’all! We are in the works of planning some great trunk shows, workshops and events for 2025. However, we want to hear from you! A survey is attached, if you want to fill it out and bring it with you to the October meeting. We will also have printed copies. We are also looking for someone interested in shadowing and support the workshops committee for the new year. Our committee currently includes Darlene, Jesse, and me. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or are interested! We would love to work with you. Thank you, Mary Ann C., Vice President Guild Sew-ins Did you know regular sew-ins are held at the Fairborn Senior Center? We meet every Monday from 11am – 4pm, plus the second and fourth Fridays of the month from 11am – 4pm. If you are joining to help us sew community quilts, your entry will be free! Otherwise, the cost is $2, but if you’re a member of the Fairborn Senior Center, it’s only $1. Come join the fun! Quilts of Valor Our upcoming sew-ins are below. Please contact me by email if you plan to attend any sew-ins. October:
Sunshine ️ Just as a reminder, if you know someone who is sick, lost a loved one or could use a little cheer, please send me their name and I will gladly send a card from the guild. This is a gesture put in place to spread sunshine to our members and will be kept private. Email me at [email protected] or you can call or text me at 937-623-4934. Thank you, Barb Walthall, Sunshine Chair Community Quilts Thanks to everyone who has donated – I just delivered 30 more quilts to Hospice. I also donated 6 larger quilts to Northmont FISH which is a community-based organization in the northern Miami Valley that provides food and household items to those in need. Sadly, we learned that Jeremiah’s Letter is ceasing operation due to lack of funding. I am looking for new places to donate the larger quilts. If you know of an organization I should reach out to, please let me know. Thank you, Carol Gibson, Community Quilts Chair
